Gaspard Thomas, Piano

Born in 1997, Gaspard THOMAS has won numerous awards at international competitions: First Prize at the 2019 France-Amériques Competition as well as a Second Prize and 7 Special Prizes at the 2019 Piano Campus Competition in Pontoise; in 2023 he received the Third Prize and two Special Prizes at the Szymanowski Competition in Katowice, Poland. He is also a laureate of the Académie Musicale Philippe Jaroussky and artist in residence at the Fondation Singer-Polignac since 2021.

Gaspard THOMAS has appeared as soloist in both Chopin Concertos, Rachmaninov Concerto No. 1, Beethoven Concerto No. 4, Saint-Saëns Concerto No. 1 and Shostakovich Concerto No. 1. He has performed with the Orchestre Appassionato conducted by Mathieu HERZOG and the Orchestre Opéra Éclaté under the baton of Victor JACOB.

He is a guest artist at a number of festivals in France and abroad, including the Festival de la Roque d'Anthéron, the Festival de Deauville, the Lisztomanias, the Pianissimes, the Festival Chopin de Nohant, Piano en Saintonge and the Festival de Saint-Céré. Gaspard THOMAS has performed at the Auditorium de Radio France, the Auditorium de la Seine Musicale in Boulogne-Billancourt, the Orangerie de Bagatelle, and the Fondation Singer-Polignac, the auditoriums of the Petit Palais and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Musée Guimet, the Steinway & Sons showroom in Paris, the Polish Embassy and the Liszt Institute in Paris, the Théâtre de Fontainebleau, the Château de Lourmarin and the Abbaye de Pontlevoy. He will also take part in the 20th Festival des Nuits Caraïbes in Guadeloupe in February 2023.

A much-appreciated chamber musician, he performs regularly with violinist and composer Élise Bertrand (Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad in Switzerland, AJAM tour of Alsace in early 2023, recital at the Auditorium de la Bibliothèque Nationale de France). He also shares the stage with cellist Stéphanie HUANG at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Sala Verdi at the Milan Conservatoire, and the Musicales de Gadagne in France.

In December 2023, Gaspard THOMAS will take part in a 7-concert tour of New York thanks to the Orphée Musique association.
In early 2024, he will perform as a soloist at the Salle des Concerts de la Cité de la Musique with the Conservatoire Lauréats Orchestra conducted by Lucie LEGUAY. He will also perform in a trio with Élise Bertrand and cellist Hermine Horiot at the Palazetto Bru Zane in Venice.

Gaspard THOMAS holds a Master's degree in Piano from the CNSMDP, graduating unanimously with first class honours in Claire DÉSERT's class. He has worked in masterclasses and academies with artists such as Sir András SCHIFF, Bertrand CHAMAYOU, Bruno RIGUTTO, David KADOUCH, Bernard d'ASCOLI, François-Frédéric GUY and Hortense CARTIER-BRESSON. Having studied chamber music, accompaniment, composition and orchestration at the same institution, his musical career has been enriched by encounters with such luminaries as Thierry ESCAICH, Fabien WAKSMAN, Anne Le BOZEC, Marc-André DALBAVIE, Jean-Frédéric NEUBURGER, François SALQUE and Emmanuelle BERTRAND.

He previously trained at the conservatoires of Poitiers, Bordeaux and Saint-Maur-des-Fossés (94).

In 2019, he will be composing Poème, a piece for 96 pianists that was premiered at a concert at the Philharmonie de Paris.
