Tribute to Karl Münchinger

For its 24th edition, the Festival of Colmar pays tribute to its founder and first artistic director, the famous German conductor, Karl Münchinger Karl Münchinger. In 22 concerts, the programme will focus on the major German repertoire, from Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert to Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms and Mahler.

The Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, founded by Münchinger, will open the 2012 festival, while the Russian National Philharmonic will be in residence again for seven concerts.

Wind instruments (flute, oboe and clarinet) and brass will have a strong presence and Colmar will welcome in 2012 some of the biggest stars, as well as some of the revelations of recent years. A host of outstanding pianists will once again be at the festival, not to mention the many chamber ensembles and an array of conductors of the highest international standing.
