Sebastian Berner, trumpet
Sebastian Berner won the prestigious Maurice André Competition in 2022 – what a great honour for a young trumpet player!
Sebastian received his first trumpet lessons at the age of nine from Markus Klein in Stuttgart. He studied with Prof. Hannes Läubin in Munich and with Prof. Reinhold Friedrich in Karlsruhe.
Sebastian Berner was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Germany. He has won prizes at numerous competitions, including the International Music Competition ‘Città di Chieri’ 2016 in Italy,
the International Reinhold Friedrich Trumpet Competition in Lisbon 2016, the International Lake Constance Competition 2017 and the Lions European Music Competition in Montreux in the same year. In 2022, he won first prize at the International Maurice André Competition in Paris organised by Ibrahim Maalouf.
Guest appearances as principal trumpet have taken him to the Berlin Philharmonics, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra and the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra. He was also a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
From 2018 to 2021, Sebastian Berner played principal trumpet at the Stuttgart State Orchestra before joining the hr-Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2022.
