Stéphane Degout, Baryton
Trained at the CNSM and the Atelier Lyrique de l'Opéra de Lyon, Stéphane Degout made his debut as Papageno (Mozart's The Magic Flute) at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in July 1999. Since then, he has performed on the greatest opera stages (Opéra de Paris, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Opéra Comique, Berlin Staatsoper, La Monnaie in Brussels, Theater an der Wien, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Lyric Opera Chicago, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Teatro alla Scala, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the National Opera in Amsterdam, the Opernhaus Zurich, the Salzburg, Saint Denis, Glyndebourne, Edinburgh and Aix-en-Provence festivals) and under the direction of renowned conductors (René Jacobs, John Nelson, Nathalie Stutzmann, Raphaël Pichon, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and Barbara Hannigan).
An interpreter of a varied repertoire, his artistic commitment has led him to take part in numerous premieres: La Dispute by Benoit Mernier Au Monde and Pinocchio by Philippe Boesmans.
Stéphane Degout defends the Lied and French mélodie repertoire, which he studied with Ruben Lifschitz, and regularly performs in recital with pianists Alain Planès, Simon Lepper and Cédric Tiberghien. He was named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and Lyric Artist of the Year in 2012 and 2019 at the Victoires de la Musique Classique awards.
