Viktoria Mullova, Violin

Viktoria Mullova studied at the Central Music School in Moscow and at the Moscow Conservatory. Her extraordinary talent came to the attention of the whole world when she won first prize at the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki in 1980 and the Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1982. Since then, she has played with the greatest orchestras and conductors and at the most renowned international festivals.

Her interest in an authentic approach has led her to collaborate with ensembles playing period instruments. She has a particular affinity with Bach, whose work makes up a large part of her discography.

She also likes to mix musical influences, world music, jazz and pop music, as evidenced by her most recent project, Stradivarius in Rio, inspired by her predilection for Brazilian music.

In 2018-19, Viktoria will tour with several recitals in major Chinese (Xi'an, Shenzhen, Shanghai) and Japanese (Tokyo and Yokohama) cities. She will also perform with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and the Halle Orchestra. Under the direction of conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Thomas Dausgaard, Kent Nagano, Ludovic Morlot, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Giovanni Antonini, Markus Poschner and Paavo Järvi.

Viktoria will also perform in recital and in duos on various European stages, notably with the pianist and fortepianist Alasdair Beatson in a programme composed of Beethoven's Sonatas for Violin and Piano.

Her extensive discography, under the Philips Classic and Onyx Classics labels, has won numerous prestigious awards. Her latest recording dedicated to Prokofiev, released in August 2015, has once again been unanimously praised by critics.

Viktoria plays her 1723 ‘Jules Falk’ Stradivarius and a Guadagnini.
