
Edgar Moreau, cello
Winner of the Rostropovich 2009, Tchaikovsky 2011 and Young Concert Artist 2014 competitions, Edgar Moreau, born in 1994, began playing the cello at the age of four.
At the same time as learning the piano, he studied with Philippe Muller at the CNSM in Paris and perfected his skills with Frans Helmerson in Kronberg. He made his debut in the Dvorak concerto with the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio in Turin at the age of 11.

Chamber music has a special place in his career and his partners include Martha Argerich, Yo-Yo Ma, Renaud Capuçon, David Kadouch, Khatia Buniatishvili, Nicholas Angelich, Andras Schiff, Emmanuel Pahud, Sergey Babayan, Lisa Batiashvili, Julian Rachlin, Alexey Volodin, Bertrand Chamayou, as well as his brothers and sister, who are also musicians.
In 2014, Edgar released his first album for Erato, "Play", with pianist Pierre-Yves Hodique, followed by "Giovincello", baroque concerti with the ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro and Riccardo Minasi, awarded the ECHO Classik prize in 2016, and a disc devoted to Debussy sonatas and trios in 2017 (Erato, Warner). More recently, a duo recital with David Kadouch devoted to Franck, Poulenc, Strohl and De la Tombelle, as well as Offenbach and Gulda concertos with Les Forces Majeures and Raphaël Merlin, and Saint-Saëns piano trios with Renaud Capuçon and Bertrand Chamayou.
In 2020, he joined forces with his sister Raphaëlle and his brothers Jérémie and David, for a disc of Dvorak and Korngold ("A Family Affair", Warner Classics).
Latest release (Warner Classics, April 2022): Transmission, a disc celebrating the Hebrew musical heritage, through works by Bloch, Bruch, Korngold and Ravel, with the LuzernerSinfonieOrchester and Michael Sanderling.
He was awarded 2 Victoires de la Musique Classique in 2013 and 2015 and won an ECHO Classik in 2016. He is also a winner of the ECHO Rising Stars in 2017. He has received support from the Fondation Banque Populaire, the Fondation d'entreprise Safran, he is Adami Classical Instrumental Revelation 2012, as well as Prix Jeune Soliste des Radios Francophones Publique 2013.
Edgar Moreau plays a cello by David Tecchler from 1711 and a bow by Dominique Peccatte.
