Fanny Clamagirand, Violin

For many years now, Fanny Clamagirand has been establishing herself as an artist of great distinction on the international scene, and as one of the revelations of the French violin scene.

Born in Paris, she began playing the violin at the age of 7 and went straight on to study at the Paris Conservatoire under Jean-Jacques Kantorow at the age of 16. Winner of the 2007 Monte-Carlo Violin Masters, named ‘Révélation Classique Adami 2006’, 1st Prize at the 2005 F. Kreisler International Competition in Vienna, Fanny has also studied in London and Vienna. Acclaimed for the elegance of her playing and her interpretations that combine raw sensitivity, authority and freedom, she is a guest in the world's greatest concert halls and festivals, and performs as a soloist alongside renowned orchestras and artists. For several years, she was a member of Mutter's Virtuosi, an ensemble of young soloists led by the great German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. She is also a regular guest on French and foreign radio stations. Her concerts are frequently broadcast live on France Musique and Radio Classique. Her extensive discography has been widely acclaimed and rewarded by the specialist press. Her discography includes the Six Sonates d'Ysaÿe (Nascor; 2007), the three violin concertos by Saint-Saëns (Naxos; 2010 / CHOC Classica), a three-volume cycle of works for violin and piano by Saint-Saëns with Vanya Cohen (Naxos ; 2013 to 2021), Edith Canat de Chizy's Missing, premiered with the Orchestre National de France conducted by John Storgårds (Solstice; 2019), and the Beethoven Concerto set against Peteris Vasks's Distant Light, recorded with the English Chamber Orchestra and Ken-David Masur (Mirare; 2020). Florence Price's Violin Concertos have just been released by Naxos, with the Malmö Opera Orchestra and John Jeter. Her next album, recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Karen Kamensek, is devoted to concertos by Sibelius and Britten and will be released on the UK label Signum Records.

Fanny Clamagirand is also regularly asked to take part in juries for international competitions and to lead masterclasses. She was awarded the Prix des Arts by the Académie d'Occitanie in 2019. She is one of the ‘Jubilee Ambassadors’ of the Bärenreiter music publishing house for its centenary celebrations. She is artistic director of the ‘Classiques de la Villa Charlotte’, a new international music event in Les Sables d'Olonne, due to be launched in 2023.

Fanny plays a Matteo Goffriller made in Venice around 1700.
