Iris Torossian, Harp

A graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (unanimously awarded first prize for harp and first prize for chamber music in 1998), Iris TOROSSIAN, after a brilliant advanced course in Isabelle Moretti's class, was a prize-winner in 2001 in the International Chamber Music Competition in Arles and in 2002 she won 2nd prize in the ‘Arpista Ludovico’ International Harp Competition in Madrid.

 

Having benefited from the master classes of Germaine Lorenzini, Marielle Nordmann, Susanna Mildonian, Catherine Michel, Fabrice Pierre, Suzann Mac Donald, Deborah Henson-Conant (jazz harp) and Marie-Claire Jamet, she represented the French school of harp at the Kyoto International Music Festival in 2000, and in 2002 was chosen by the ’ Jeunesses Musicales de France’ to tour throughout France with Magali Mosnier and the Brussels Chamber Orchestra, was invited to play with the soloists of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich in 2005 and 2008, performed as a soloist at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in 2006 and gave recitals in Montreal in 2009 and 2012. At the 2012 Victoires de la Musique Classique, she accompanied the Maîtrise de Radio France.

 

She performs regularly as a soloist and in chamber music at the Gargilesse, Chaillol, Radio France, Musica Nigella, Musique au Pays de Pierre Loti and Journées de la harpe d'Arles festivals. Her partners are Magali Mosnier, Sabine Morel, Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabédian, Karen Kochafian, the Modigliani Quartet, the Zellig Ensemble, the Zéphyr Quintet, Paul Rouger and the French Soloists.

 

Since 1997, she has regularly played with the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Paris, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestres Philharmoniques de Strasbourg and Monte Carlo, the Orchestre National d'Ile de France, the Opéra de Rouen, the Orchestre de Bretagne, the Les Siècles Orchestra under the direction of Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Paavo Järvi, Christoph Eschenbach, Myung-Whun Chung, Marek Janowski, Yutaka Sado, Mikko Franck, Daniele Gatti, Vladimir Fedosseiev, François-

Xavier Roth, etc.

 

She often participates in the recording of film music by the composer Philippe Rombi and for the singer Vincent Delerm. Her first album, ‘Aurore-Oror’, a duet with the violinist Karen Khochafian, was released in 2009 by Harmonia Mundi, featuring a repertoire of French and Armenian music.
